First International Conference on Geoscience and Geo-Parks Program

The Mongolian National Commission of UNESCO is co-sponsoring UNESCO's Geological Science and Geo-parks with the Secretariat of the International Program, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, and other related organizations to introduce the UNESCO Geological Science and Geo-Park International Program for the first time in Mongolia. The meeting was held on June 26, 2018 in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.
The program has started its operations in 2001 to support the development of geologically important places internationally and contributing to sustainable local development. As of today, UNESCO's global geo-park network has registered 140 places in 38 countries.
The opening statements were delivered by Mr. Ts.Tsogtsaikhan, Head of Administration Department and Acting State Secretary of Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Mrs. M. Enkhjargal, Vice Chairman of Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia, UNESCO Geological Science and Geo-Park International Program Secretary of Professor Patrick McKeever and President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences D. Regdel.
The event was attended by over 80 delegates from UNESCO's Geological Sciences and Geo-Parks International experts and relevant Government and Non-Governmental Organizations.
